News and Old News
Epiphany
Hey Everyone! We've been very busy lately, but we're BACK! Our first full-length "Epiphany"
is in the final stages and will be coming out in
the late spring! In the meantime, we'll be offering free sampler CD's
at our upcoming shows and we will be taking
pre-orders. To show our gratitude for those of you interested, we'll be selling the CD's for
$10
prior to the release, which is a great deal! When the albums finally
drop, they'll be priced at a modest $12, which is still a great deal.
If you would like to pre-order, talk to one of us or any of our merch helpers at a show or drop us a line via
MySpace or
email. We're looking forward to seeing everyone at
our upcoming shows and appreciate all the support you're giving us!
THANKS!!

Studio/Album update
Hey everyone! Just a quick update. First of all, we just finished
recording our upcoming LP and EP and will be starting the arduous
mixing process here in about a week. We're all VERY excited about how
everything sounds and cannot wait to share it with you! In the
meantime, we will be playing one last show before the year ends.
Actually, we'll play half a show before the year end and the other half
next year.
We hope everyone has a great holiday season and we look forward to
seeing you in 2007! Keep your ears open for a new track or two up here
on Myspace around the beginning of the year.
Hey! Come see us in Boone at Legends on September 28; we're playing with our good friends in
Uncle Mountain and it's going to be an
awesome
show. We'll also be using connections through school and friends to go
all out with a professional recording of the show: 16 audio tracks and
at least three cameras. Come out to support us by being on our video
and look for a release of the show via web or DVD in the near future!
Hullo
friends. We've got news! And it's good! Defying Belief will be entering
the studio this fall, starting September 16, to record the long-awaited
first full-length Defying Belief album! We're still making some last
decisions before the process starts, but be well-aware: new material is
coming soon!
The
DB street team
needs YOU! We're trying to promote the hell out of some upcoming shows
and get more shows while we're at it, so jump on the team to help
support a local band (and to get free merch)!
Well, as of this past weekend, we made a big change by recruiting a new drummer! Jack Foster,
a Raleigh/Greensboro kid, will be playing for us from this point
foward and he meshes with us really well. This kid has been playing
jazz and rock for quite a few years and he used to play the triangle
for the Wu Tang Clan! Come check us out this summer to see the new
lineup; there are
plenty of chances!
As far as Alex goes, he had to quit to devote more time to selling his
body because he made more money doing that. Just kidding; Alex is in
another band,
Mona Ray,
and with schedule conflicts and the near impossibility of juggling two
bands playing in several cities, all four of us thought it would be
best for both bands in the long run to make the change. We'll miss him
dearly, but I'm kind of glad he's gone because his interpretive dancing
during our shows used to get really out-of-hand.
Hey dudes
and dudettes; just letting you guys know that our spring tour is going
to be abridged to mostly NC dates due to logistics and busy schedules.
The full tour will be happening in the near future, so we'll keep you
posted.
We put together another showcase at FlipSide in Boone that you guys should definately check out with
Sack Lunch (Boone), Llama Train
(Knoxville), and
By Morning (Asheville). We're expanding our radius in NC to new venues
and new cities, towns, villages, communities, neighborhoods, streets, households, bedrooms, and closets. Keep checking our
events page.
Howdy, folks! 2006 has been treating us well, and we hope it's done the
same for you. We put together a successful showcase at FlipSide this
past weekend with
Mona Ray and
The Verdict.
Thanks to all who came! We're trying hard to get FlipSide associated
with good music, so try to check out the shows we'll be setting up with
other bands there in the near future.
We got some exciting news from
Cat's Cradle;
they thought our showcase slot a couple of weeks ago was excellent and
they PROMISED us an opening slot for a headlining act! We'll let you
know as soon as they book it.
We've been
doing a lot of brainstorming and networking recently and, after a short
break from mid-December to mid-January, we will be going full throttle
in the new year. The street team is on the rise and a bunch of new
merch is coming soon (new demos, stickers, buttons, and shirts). We're
also working on getting in to venues like Tremont, Ace's Basement,
Ziggy's, and Green Street, so keep your eyes and ears open for info!
We've been recording at UNC @ Chapel Hill, and are planning on another
album release before summer!
Check us
out live at our CD release shows at the end of August and all
throughout September! You can pick up a copy at the show, hear some
spankin' new original songs, and sing along to some covers people just
can't dislike. See you there!
Well, the EP album will be out within weeks. Now that we've chosen
Tears of a Nation as the title, we're working on the graphic design and
content details for the album. While Tears of a Nation will be
available for order and pickup near the end of July, we've decided to
hold off on the release shows until September, when school is back in
full swing and we'll be able to draw more of a crowd. We've also
decided that, instead of having one release show, we'll have multiple
release shows in different cities around NC to make the CD easily
available to more people. We're hoping to have at least one show in
each of the regions of NC (mountains, piedmont, coast), so as they say:
COMING SOON TO A THEATER NEAR YOU! Except that it won't be a theater.
More of a venue, rather. Probably a bar or club. BYE.
The weekend tour was great as expected! We want to thank everyone who
came out to Morehead Street Tavern, The Rhino Club, and West End this
past weekend and In-V for going out of their way to ask us to open for
them even though they never got permission from Morehead! We were
received very well at all three venues, made several great contacts,
were offered two more shows for late summer or fall (posted soon), and
are well on our way to getting our album manufactured; just one or two
more gigs and we'll be ready to go! See you at the next show...
Today starts our first weekend tour as a full band. Our friend Justin
of In-V invited us to play with them at Moorehead Tavern in Charlotte
tonight, so off we go in a couple of hours! Then tomorrow, after a
little practice, we'll be playing The Rhino Club in Greensboro, which
could be a huge opportunity for us, so come out and support the band! I
guess we'll start heading over to Burlington about mid-afternoon on
Sunday to get ready for the last show of the weekend at a bar called
West End.
Unfortunately, the festival in Mebane, NC on July 9 has been cancelled.
This was the date we were going to release our album, but we're
currently looking to book another show in July that we can use to host
our CD release show, so keep checking back as we should have it booked
soon!
Well, the Grapevine show didn't end up having much of a turnout, but we
played really well and had a blast playing with the very talented
Melissa Reaves. We just finished two new songs and are working on two
more, so get excited about hearing new songs at the next show (and
probably open mic nights beforehand)!
In other news, we just got signed up for what will either be a huge
concert or a kickass battle-of-the-bands in Mebane (Meh-bin, not
Mee-bayne), NC on July 22, which is coincidentally Andrew's birthday!
It will most likely be an all-day event and there will be ELEVEN other
good bands, so go ahead and mark it on your calendars and check it out!
Well, things are picking up speed a bit as we've finally been able to
get a few shows booked. We recently won a Battle of the Bands
competition at Elon University, which was a very pleasant surprise. The
other bands who played were great, including Someday Never, a band of a
bunch of cool guys from New Jersey. Check them out!
We just put up a Myspace account @ www.myspace.com/defyingbelief, which
has some demos up. We have two tracks from our yet-to-be-released album
and will have several of our acoustic duo tracks alternating between
Myspace and our PureVolume page, www.purevolume.com/defyingbelief, so
check them both often and you might eventually collect them all!
March is here and we're really excited about things to come! We've
finished recording an EP album, redesigned the web site, and dropped
off promotion packs to bars and venues all over Boone and Blowing Rock
in hopes to play as much as possible. We got one show within days, so
we're off to a pretty good start. All that's left is making enough
money to get CDs manufactured! All in good time...
Happy February! Defying Belief is heading into the studio this coming
Sunday to begin recording the EP that will be coming out this
spring/summer! The track listing has been somewhat confirmed to be:
1. Acts of Patriotism
2. Alone
3. Nothing But a Game
4. Miss America
5. Backdoor Memory
Well, we have some big news for everyone! Defying Belief will be going
into the studio within the next few weeks to record a 4 or 5 track EP!
Everything sounds amazing and we're ready to finally get this done! In
the meantime, make sure to enter the new contest for a chance to win
the new CD when it comes out. In the meantime, we should updating this
more regularly. We're also going to start a mailing list, so be sure to
sign up. Don't worry, it won't be very often.
All right, well, it's definitely been a while but here we are, 2005. As
always, we hope everyone had a good holiday break. The months of
December and January have proven to be big ones for Defying Belief.
Joining Andrew and Ryan will be drummer Alex (The Jukebox Hero) and
bass player John (Grim Comics of Duration). We'll be remaining a
strictly acoustic group with the addition of these 2 excellent
musicians. As you know, our next show is at the Solarium in the ASU
Student Union, so don't miss out on the first performance of Defying
Belief as a full ensemble. We've been rehearsing fairly constantly over
the past few months and everything sounds absolutely amazing.
Well, we hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We know we did. We will
be conducting auditions over the next few weeks and will select a bass
player and a drummer based on our discretion. Also, we'll be playing a
show in the newly christened Solarium in the student union on 1/19/05.
It's a Wednesday from 12-2, but what can you do? Also, we'll be doing
some recording here, hardcore, so maybe there will be new stuff up here
soon. Until then...
Also, to those of you who are well endowed with the ability to play
drums or bass, we're holding auditions for those positions sometime in
December. So, if you'd like to take a shot at playing with us on a
longer-term basis, send an e-mail to the address below. We look forward
to adding to our duo keeping everything acoustic. We'll keep everyone
updated as to the progress we make with that. Thanks for everything
everyone has done.
So the show at Crossroads went alright. Despite having numerous
technical problems and starting 30 minutes late. We would like to
personally thank each and every one of you that came out and supported
us for that show....and given that doing that will take only a few
minutes, we just may thank each and every one of you. For the time
being, we plan on writing a lot more and playing our usual spots. We
are working on getting more material together and perhaps recording a
new demo which we may even distribute...or not. In reality, we'll be
talking to some people on campus because apparently, it's possible to
play a show in Cascades.
So tonight's set at Whitewater went really well! We played well, the Influence played well and that's all that mattered.
At any rate, the next big thing is our Crossroads set on Tuesday, 11/9.
We're playing a 2 hour set at 8PM with many, many surprises. In fact,
even if you've been to every DB show ever, this will be 10x better, so
come on out! Especially since it's free!
So I hope everyone had a happy Halloween! Defying Belief spent the
evening hanging out with all of our favorite people and even some
people who weren't our favorites but we let them hang out too. Just
kidding...they stayed even when we told them to leave. No, seriously,
we like everyone. Anywho, there's a few things coming up you should
know about.
First of all, Defying Belief will be opening for the Influence at
Whitewater in the ASU Student Union Thursday, 11/4. The show probably
starts at 7 and will probably be $5. Another event to note is that
Defying Belief will be playing their 2 hour set at Crossroads on
Tuesday, 11/9 around 7 or 8. We'll know for sure later this week, so
plan on coming to that. That show will be free. Also, there may be some
new songs at that show so you won't want to miss it...unless you do.
We've just learned about a possible event for next Thursday 10/28. We
have been asked to play at the student democratic rally at Duck Pond
Field. We'll have more information tomorrow, but the rally is scheduled
from 4-8PM. We might also be picking up open mic nights at Le Bistro
Fondue on King Street Friday evenings. We'll keep you all posted on
that as well. In the meantime, we'll be writing more songs and
re-recording our original demo and some new material in preparation for
the show on the 9th of November in Crossroads. Come out if you can as
we have a few surprises in store for that show.
Well, here we are, it's 2 AM. We have a few shows...or should I say
"shows" coming up in the next few weeks. This coming Saturday (10.16)
we'll be playing a benefit concert at Boone Saloon. This is to benefit
the Democrat headquarters here in Boone that had it's windows smashed
out one night last week. Such a senseless act. Anyhow, Defying Belief
was asked to come play there. We will be playing a 30 minute set
scheduled to start at around 8:00. It's $5 to get in, but it's for a
good cause, so we don't really think it's wasted money. But then again,
we don't have to pay to get in.
On another note, we've written several new songs and with the creation
of this new webpage, we should be able to host our music. However, it
would be nice if you checked us out at Radiotakeover.com, which is a
new website which hosts free mp3's by unsigned bands and is generally
geared to the alternative genres of music. Much like MP3.com used to do
until it was bought out by Vivendi and all of the original music
sold...with NO profit going to the songwriters and artists hosted
there. Help deter further acts such as this by supporting Radiotakeover
which has vowed not to let that happen again. With that being said,
check back more often for better things.
